SpringHill Suites by Marriott Asheville

The roach was the one problem that lowered my rating. A baby roach showed up by the coffee kettle, and I killed it. I checked for more bugs and found none. Since we arrived late for our one-night stay, we zipped up our luggage and settled in for a few hours' sleep. I mentioned it to the clerk when checking out. I didn't ask for a discount and wasn't offered one, though later I wondered if I should have been compensated for sharing the room with that unexpected guest. The staff were friendly, and our room with two double beds and a sleeper sofa was spacious. We were impressed with it until the roach appeared. Breakfast was very nice, with eggs, sausage, Canadian bacon, fruit, cereal, and muffins.

My king suite was clean, comfortable, and spacious, and the location was just right, seven minutes from Downtown and close to the highway for day trips. The staff were incredibly helpful with my questions and made early check-in easy. I'll stay here again on my next visit.

Parking worked fine for my full size truck, and although the entrance road is partly hidden by trees, that's on the city. The free breakfast was decent, and the room was clean with everything working. The bathroom fan did make a worrying noise, though. Staff were polite and friendly, and I'd come back. It felt like the kind of budget hotel I expected.

The room was cared for and the cleaning staff did a good job, though the decor felt a little dated. The bathroom and the rest of the room could use brighter lighting. Front desk staff didn't really interact unless we went to them first.
