Skye welcomed us when we checked in around 9 pm, taking time to get us oriented and making it feel personal. That stood out, especially with such a late arrival. The location is great, just off El Camino Real and close to good places to eat, including a bakery next door. There's also a restaurant on-site. The Carlton is beautifully done, with soft, bright colors and a thoughtful mix of historic character and modern touches. The hardwood floors were a nice surprise, and there wasn't that overpowering cleaning chemical smell that's more common than it should be. Everything felt clean and considered. Both the room and bathroom are more spacious than most hotels in this category. For the price, it delivers well beyond its 3-star position and feels much closer to a 4-star stay. I can't think of anything on the Central Coast at this price that matches the charm, design, and experience. We'll absolutely be back.

We were so glad we picked this hotel. It was renovated in May, 2026, and now looks gorgeous. The rooms are beautiful and functional, as are the lobby, bakery, restaurant, halls, and stairways. The staff are great too. Such a steal of a deal.

We couldn't try the restaurant Mabel, since we're not sure it was open yet or perhaps had limited hours. Still, there are coffee, bakery, and excellent food options an easy walk away. The hotel has personality and a sense of history alongside its updates. Our room was very nice, quite large, with a big, well-appointed bathroom. We'd definitely stay again.

Paige at the front desk was exceptional and really went above and beyond. The remodel is lovely and has a boutique feel, with nice beds, decor, and a spacious room and bathroom. There are lots of cute shops and places to eat within walking distance. We loved Binx Coffee, Lebbers, and Wendy White’s Bakery. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.

It was great to finally see inside this historic hotel. We enjoyed the remodel, with its vibrant colors and modern touches. The bakery next door was great, too. The inner second-floor courtyard was so cute when we checked it out last night, and we'll stay in one of those rooms next time. Our light came on at 3:13 am, with a hum from the hallway switch. Shiver. It also takes forever for the water to get hot. It's an old building, so maybe the boiler's in the basement. Part of the charm :)
