Candlewood Suites Athens by IHG

We paid $300 on a game day, and I could understand higher prices in the Athens area, but the room smelled awful. The hallway carpet was already a little off-putting, and the odor hit hard when we opened our door. The front desk woman was kind and moved us, but the replacement room smelled the same and had a dehumidifier. There were tarps at both ends of the hotel, so I'm guessing there may have been water damage. That may be outside the hotel's control, but guests should be told what's going on so they can decide, and motel-quality rooms shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars. The fridge didn't work either. Water I put in at 7pm was still room temperature when I took it out at 9am. The rooms also showed plenty of wear and tear.

The staff were great, but we had to change rooms four times because every one smelled of mildew and mold. I'd seen reviews saying the same thing from two years ago, so it seems they don't want to fix it.

We were in town for my son's UGA graduation and paid over $400 for this place. The smell was horrible, dogs barked in the room next door, and there were no towels. I've never stayed somewhere without towels to dry off with. If they missed those, did they change the sheets either? The manager was nice, but all she offered was 20% off. I'd call this place a dump and tell anyone I know not to stay here.

We were there about three weeks and had an enjoyable stay. The employees were always nice, and the weekly cleaning was done well. The kitchen was good, though it didn't have an oven. Laundry was free and available any hour. Sometimes our room keys didn't work, but the front desk could fix that easily. There's plenty of parking and lots of stores nearby.
