Townhouse Hotel Grand Forks

If you’re a light sleeper, stay somewhere else. With a festival going on, people were up late, and sound carried everywhere. The pool sits in the middle of the hotel, so it gets noisy and echoey. Most rooms connect to a neighboring one through two doors, but those doors do nothing to block the sound. My neighbors were talking and watching TV late. They weren’t being loud, and the TV was turned down, but I could hear it all as if they were in my room. It was hard to ignore, and I felt bad asking them to be quiet when I shouldn’t have been able to hear them in the first place. The hotel is close to downtown, and the rooms themselves are nice. The pool is small, and the advertised amount seems a bit overstated, though it’s pleasant enough. There’s also a short mini golf course in the lobby, which was fun and unusual. The place is older and could use some cosmetic work. Some signs still have the red roof inn logo.

The location is handy for downtown activities, and the attached bar and restaurant serves a very good breakfast. The hotel is okay, but it’s worn and some rooms need updating. In our room the TV didn’t work, the fridge knob was broken so all our drinks froze, and housekeeping missed the room.

The outside had me a little doubtful at first, but inside it was warm and almost tropical, with a pool area that really impressed me. For what you get, the price was great. I stayed with my girlfriend in January of 2014 during the record setting cold temperatures, and we had an amazing time. We went to Muddy Rivers bar several times and loved it. The staff were excellent and accommodating, so I’ll be back. I’m a bit wary that red roof inn bought the hotel. If they keep the same atmosphere and friendly staff, I’m sure I’ll be pleased again.

The breakfast was the weak spot. The continental spread was lackluster, and the paid options weren’t much better. Still, I had a good stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I’d take that over breakfast any day. There are plenty of good food choices nearby. The hotel itself is nice, and the rooms are clean, if a little small. Mini golf was a bit disappointing, but the pool, sauna, and hot tub were great.
