Barclay Hotel Atlanta Downtown

I had a great experience overall, but the return of my damage deposit refund has been disappointing. I contacted the GM, who said it had been processed, but I still haven't received it. I've followed up, and I'm not getting any response.

The breakfast was excellent, the rooms were comfortable, clean, and well maintained, and the location was very convenient. Still, we left the Barclay Hotel with mixed feelings because of the poor front desk service and lack of follow-up. We had to wait about four hours to get into our room and were charged an early check-in fee. The hotel promised a refund, but despite several attempts to contact them afterward, it never came through and our emails went unanswered. The staff felt indifferent and unhelpful throughout the stay. There was also a message on the bathroom mirror, “No kings here,” that appeared once the mirror fogged up after a shower. We didn't know what it meant or why it was there, and it clearly hadn't been properly removed before we arrived. We found that unprofessional and inappropriate. The facilities, cleanliness, and breakfast were good, but the poor service and lack of follow-up significantly affected our experience.

The location is central downtown, with easy access to several subway stations. Our room was clean, customer service was prompt and professional, and they let us keep food in the hotel fridge since our room didn't have one. But the stay came with a lot of compromises for a cheaper place. The fitness room was misleadingly advertised. It was a small room with one old treadmill and one poorly maintained old weight machine. It was also stuffed with old, moldy mattresses, making it a health hazard. Paint was peeling around the hotel, and the single elevator barely worked. The bathroom had no ventilation, so it seems like a ripe spot for mold. The hair dryer didn't work, the toilet didn't function well, and the shower had insufficient pressure. Our room's heat didn't work either, and dust from the fans was bad enough to cause an allergic reaction, which never happens to me.

Everyone we dealt with was super friendly and helpful, and the location was great, about a 10 minute walk to Olympic Park and the GA Aquarium. The Barclay Hotel delivered what it claimed to be, an economically friendly stay in Downtown Atlanta. The rooms and beds were small and outdated, and definitely need a remodel, but they were clean. There weren't many amenities, though there was free continental breakfast. If you want a budget room downtown and don't mind somewhere simple and small, this is a good choice.
