Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Atlanta Downtown Capitol Park

The morning after we finally got into our rooms, there was no hot water in the shower. After a long day of meetings, I came back to find no room service, no made beds, and the towels had been taken. We arrived to find more than 50 people in the lobby waiting for rooms because of a supposed room service issue. The truth was that the hotel had deleted those 50 reservations and double booked the whole property. After negotiating with the front desk, I got only two of my three rooms at midnight and had to tell customers they’d need to share. There were no sheets on the beds either, and it took about an hour to get that sorted out. I wish I could give this place zero stars. It was one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. Please don’t stay here.

The staff were actually quite pleasant, which is the only good thing I can say about this pit. Maybe I’d be pleasant too if I’d managed to get someone to stay there. I’ve stayed in some pretty wretched places in the Army, and this one was worse. The pool wasn’t working, even though that’s why I chose the hotel so my 7-year-old could swim. Security was nonexistent: the outside doors didn’t close properly, and you could pry open the ones at the stairwells. The rooms were badly outdated, with peeling paint on paper-thin walls, stained carpets, dripping faucets, and rotting food in the ice bucket. Only one elevator worked. I fell on the stairs and sprained my ankle. The restaurant food was horrid, I had to ask for blankets, and the key cards worked once before I had to go downstairs to get them reset. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

The room and hallways smelled of smoke, and the hallway ceiling lights were very dim. The mattress was comfortable, but dust had packed the gap between the wall and the headboard, so we had to move the beds away from the wall. The carpet looked like it might have been the first one installed in the hotel. It had stains, holes, rips, and raised humps, so I refused to walk on it barefoot. There are four elevators, but only one barely worked. I overheard a guest ask about it and was told the bill to the elevator company hadn’t been paid. We were told the pool wasn’t open to guests because the city hadn’t approved it yet. The front desk staff were welcoming, and they were the only employees I saw. I never saw a cleaner during my four days there. We stayed only because everywhere else was full. If it’s your only option, fine, but otherwise don’t stay here.

I’m glad this was only a one-night stop on my road trip. The advertised breakfast buffet wasn’t open, though maybe it’s only available on weekends. The hotel photos and information made it look like it would be. There was a lot in disrepair, and even the computer system was down. The shower was oddly designed, with the drain in the center of the bathroom, so it flooded the floor. Its handle was broken, and there was no hot water anyway, so I couldn’t shower. I don’t like posting bad reviews, but I think it’s necessary if this location is going to improve. I was very dissatisfied with my stay.
