We booked four rooms for a family trip to Philadelphia and New York, celebrating my cousin’s graduation. I’ve worked in hospitality for 10 years, and unfortunately the hotel stay became part of the adventure for all the wrong reasons. The elevators were painfully slow. With 15 of us, waiting 5-10 minutes for one became normal, and getting everyone upstairs felt like coordinating an evacuation drill. The furniture was worn out in several rooms. My father’s sofa was badly peeling, and the sofa bed smelled so strong that my mother refused to sleep on it and moved into my room. When I asked to switch rooms, I was told they knew about the problem and new sofa beds would arrive in two weeks. That didn’t help us during our stay. The hotel charges a daily resort fee that supposedly includes housekeeping, but rooms weren’t serviced every day. A few days in, I requested extra towels and linens for three rooms, gave exact quantities, and asked the agent to write it down. Housekeeping delivered all eight towels to my room, so I became the family’s unofficial towel distribution center. Soon after, the desk called to ask how many people were in my suite. There were five of us in a two-bedroom suite, just a family on vacation trying to get enough towels, not a party or secret nightclub operation. At check-in, my uncle asked why there was an extra authorization on his card when the room was prepaid. The desk agent couldn’t explain and had to ask someone in the back. For a question hotels must hear all the time, that was surprising. I also felt uncomfortable when a housekeeper asked for my room number in a crowded elevator without introducing herself, after I mentioned needing towels to my cousin. The lobby looked dated, but I’d expected the location to matter more than appearances. I know every hotel has challenges, but clearer communication, better service recovery, and more attention to the guest experience could have helped. This stay fell short.

The suites are beautiful and spacious, and I love that there’s a stove in the kitchen. My family and I are enjoying our stay at the Atlantic Palace, and we’ll definitely come back.

The boardwalk is the only thing this old property has going for it. The rooms are outdated and dingy, with old furniture, scratchy sheets, and an unreliable Wi-Fi connection. The “jacuzzi” tub looks suspect, and the whole “suite” left a lot to be desired. The fridge looked like it hadn’t been cleaned or defrosted in months. There’s even a phone above the kitchenette sink, and the bathroom fixtures are loose. I could go on.

I stayed from 01/23/26-01/30/26, and after more than 15 years of coming here, this may be my last visit. Atlantic place needs to keep up its standards, even in the offseason. Guests who pay should not be treated like prisoners. The evening security guard on the 26th needs to be removed ASAP. Do you drug test these people, or just hire anyone? The security staff don’t make eye contact, acknowledge anyone, or even look up. What’s the point of having security if customers can’t get basic human support? I checked in on the 23rd, then went home and returned on the 26th because of a big snow storm. When I came back, the make and model written on my parking pass were wrong, so I asked security to correct it to avoid further problems. The guard huffed, puffed, stared at me, and seemed like he was on some type of drug. His eyes were red, his response was insanely delayed, and he shook his head and said, “this is ridiculous” before sliding me the corrected pass. My guest had a lot of luggage, so I asked if I could get a cart. He rolled his eyes and huffed even more until I asked if he had an issue. He went to unlock the cart from the room and said, “it’s not my problem nor is it yours.” What does that even mean? I would have understood if he couldn’t give me a cart, especially if it was late and he was the only guard working. But his attitude and behavior were completely unacceptable. If he couldn’t provide one, he could have just said so instead of treating me like a burden when he signed up for this job. Don’t believe me? Check the cameras.

The suite felt open thanks to its generous space, lots of windows, and a decent view. The shower pressure was really good, too. We were right by the boardwalk and close to a couple of major casinos. Anchor Rock club was across the street, and we ended up having a fabulous time there. The room badly needs an upgrade. The furniture looked so run down and gross that I didn’t want to sit on the couch. The living room TV had no working remote, so we could only watch one channel. There was just one half mirror in the whole suite, in the bathroom, so be prepared to share it if you’re staying with other people. I was also miffed by the $50 charge for not washing your own dishes. I’m supposed to trust the previous guests washed them properly, instead of feeling sure a staff member checked that the glasses were clean? That made me squeamish. The parking garage has one lane in and out, so expect to maneuver around other cars to get to a spot. If you’re stuck for a room, like the location, and can’t find anything better, this will do for a night.
