The Chelsea

Getting to the room was confusing because the casino is so big, and it was a long walk from the parking garage. The hallway looked dark and worn, but I liked the room itself and thought it was okay. When we were ready to leave, checkout was only available by machine. Still, I had a good time.

We paid a few hundred dollars for room 906, and it wasn’t worth it. The fifth-floor skybridge was leaking from the rain, and another guest warned us not to take the far-right elevator because they’d been stuck in it earlier. One of our door cards didn’t work, though we could get in with the other one. The lamp flickered and dimmed no matter how often I tried it. The TV wouldn’t turn on, and after troubleshooting I found its plug was in the wall instead of the TV. Then I heard a loud hum from the ventilation system and realized my socks were damp from the wet carpet. Looking more closely, I found water stains on the ceiling, nasty clear slime on the mirror, and windows that looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in two years. In the morning, another bed lamp wouldn’t work. Tropicana was asking full price for a poorly maintained place, and even the online checkout site was down when I tried to use it after receiving their email.

The place is near the Boardwalk, which is great, but getting around inside was confusing and it feels dated. The walk from valet to the rooms is long, and the lack of basic amenities made the stay less comfortable than I expected. Some updating and better organization would help a lot.

Our room was clean, but the hallways and elevator really needed cleaning. Only one of the three elevators worked reliably, and we got room service just once in four days. It’s also about a half-mile walk from the main casino.
