Days Inn by Wyndham Auburn/Finger Lakes Region

There was constant, strange noise, and the front desk blamed it on a guest’s fan. It wasn’t a fan. My room was dirty, and the bathroom sink was old and grimy. I scrubbed and scrubbed but couldn’t get it clean. In more than 20 years, this is easily the most disgusting hotel I’ve seen.

We arrived to find they had no rooms left with the two double beds we’d reserved for four people. The only option they had was a king room, and nearby hotels were all booked when we tried to find somewhere else. The room smelled awful and was very run down. I had to kill a very large bug, the bathroom door barely shut, and its handle was falling apart. I would not stay here. If zero had been an option, that’s what I would have selected.

The bathroom was clean, the shower had hot water, and the carpet had been vacuumed. But there was no iron, the door lock was broken, and the key card rarely worked within the first four swipes. The window had apparently been broken into before, and the furniture was broken. The bath towels had so much white lint that I felt covered in spiderwebs after a shower. The lobby and hallways always smelled of cigarette smoke, and there was no coffee in the morning.

The hotel was recently renovated inside, including our clean room, and the beds were comfortable. Staff were helpful, and for an inexpensive basic stay it was good. Breakfast was a decent free continental spread with cereal, waffles, sausage, eggs, coffee, juice, and similar basics. I didn’t care for the eggs, since they weren’t as warm as I wanted and were a little rubbery. The pool looked clean, though its room could use better lighting. The low pile carpet seemed out of place around the pool, but it does make slipping harder. A bit more attention to the outside landscaping would make the inn more appealing.
