The breakfast was good, though it took a long walk to get back to it. Rooms were clean and decent, and the stay was nice for the price. The furniture was really showing its age and could use replacing. Nothing about the place was particularly bad, and a bit of refurnishing would probably help.

There was a lot of noise where we stayed: a man in a truck yelling obscenities, a woman smoking right outside our non smoking door, and the next door neighbor slamming their door at least 15 times late at night. The desk clerk was rude. I have a special needs dog, a PTSD dog for my disabled 80 year old woman, signed by her doctor, but I was told to leave the next day because she wasn’t a real security dog. The parking lot wasn’t well cleaned, which was difficult for me as a disabled woman. When I reported some of this, the clerk asked why I hadn’t told them. I thought staff should be checking on things, not expecting me to tell him. I will never stay here again.

The foam mattresses were much too soft, uncomfortable, and held so much body heat that we had to turn on the A/C. It was freezing outside that weekend, October 24th to the 26th, so the room wasn’t hot because of the weather. The walls are in rough shape, with a couple of holes in the ceiling, rust starting on the lamp bases, badly rusted clothes rack, and scratched, worn furniture. The paint was peeling between the toilet and tub and inside the tub. The ceramic floor grout and corners looked like they’d never been cleaned properly. Very disgusting, it needs a good scrub or new flooring. At least the tub wasn’t slippery and the old shower head had good pressure. The thin shower curtain let water through onto the floor, wasn’t weighted down, and kept getting pulled into the shower to stick to you while washing. We had adjoining rooms with family, and the hollow doors between them were dirty. You could hear someone sneeze or laugh clearly through them. Econo Lodge in Auburn Maine is badly run down and needs upgrades everywhere. The pictures don’t show what the rooms are really like, so I’m including photos we took. I’m never staying at any Econo Lodge again.

The location is good, but that’s about all I liked. I waited 20 minutes for someone at the front desk when I first tried to check in at 3:45 p.m. Once we got the keys, the room smelled strongly of stale cigarettes and air freshener. We left after one night and changed hotels after waking with little bites that I assume were bedbug bites. There were several soft spots in the floor, sections of the ceiling were falling down, the sheets had been put on inside out, and the walls were paper thin. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Spend the extra $15.00 and stay at Hilton.

The location felt safe, but the room needs updating. It had the biggest dresser I’ve ever seen in a hotel room. Staff were alright, just doing their jobs and nothing more. They could smile more and show some customer service, since customers pay their checks. People smoked right outside their rooms without considering others. The hotel isn’t pet friendly, and I’d take an animal over a smoker anytime.
