Comfort Suites - South Austin

We were told at the last minute on arrival day that the hotel was fully booked, even though my boyfriend had reserved my room weeks earlier and paid the required security deposit. They canceled the reservation and gave us no reasonable explanation or alternative place to stay. That was extremely stressful when we were counting on having somewhere to sleep. Canceling a confirmed booking on the day someone arrives after taking a deposit is unacceptable, and it points to a serious lack of organization and professionalism. If reliability matters to you, book somewhere else. I don't trust this hotel to honor its reservations.

I liked the room when I first walked in. It was spacious, with a good separation between the living area and bedroom. But the upkeep was poor. There was no heat at all, though the A/C worked well. The bathroom sink had a long black hair, the floor hadn't been vacuumed in ages, and there were five big round pixel failures on the TV screen. The toilet was clogged. When I finally asked the desk for maintenance the next day, the man laughed. He handed me a plunger and a bag, then sat back down in his office chair and went back to his phone. I was in the room closest to the desk, and it was around 8 p.m., but he didn't offer to plunge it himself. On the second day I woke up after apparently eating a bug in my sleep. I could feel a hard, oblong object in my throat through the skin of my neck, and it wouldn't come up. I also spilled tea in the front hallway of the room and mopped it with a towel so I wouldn't track it around. The towel came up deep black. Someone's dropping the ball on all the work it takes to run a proper hotel or motel.

The front desk staff were very nice at both check-in and check-out, and the entrance and waiting area were clean. The mattress was fairly comfortable, and the sheets smelled clean despite a few small stains. There's free breakfast for guests, though I didn't try it. The room needs a deep clean and a remodel. It smelled strongly of old cigarettes and mold. There was dust and crumbs between the mattress and headboard, and some kind of splash on the TV and the wall around it. The couch and carpet looked dirty, with holes starting in the carpet; the walls had lots of poorly matched paint touch-ups. I saw a couple of dead cockroaches in the hall. They seem to spray for bugs, but someone should check the floors and halls for dead ones. It was decent value for one night, but the dirty, smelly room would make me pay a bit more to stay elsewhere. With a proper clean and remodel, it could be a decent place.

Edit: I finally got my money back after a week. Nick handled it, and the place is nice and clean with nice people working there. Just don't cancel a reservation and try to move it back a day because of a snowstorm, and you should be fine. I'm a platinum member. For two weeks I stayed during the week and then went back to San Antonio Saturday and Sunday nights without any problems. In the third week, I called the day before to push my reservation back by a day. A young man named keagen said that was all good. Then on Tuesday, before check-in, they charged me twice for $79.36 and once for $323.93 for the week. After I checked in, Jeremy charged my card for the week again, another $70 for some reason, and another $359 for the week. Nearly a week later, I was still waiting for more than $480 back. They were holding my money, and I can't stay quiet when I'm owed almost $500 because employees dropped the ball. Sorry for the long review.
