Days Inn Austin Crossroads

The breakfast was enough, though the dining area was small and there was only one waffle maker, so we waited about 30 minutes. I also woke up a couple of times because people were talking loudly in the hall, but it didn’t bother me too much. Remodeling was clearly underway. I was hesitant to book after reading the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. We got the room for under $70, and it was clean and comfortable enough. I’d recommend it for a stay on a lower budget.

Easy to get to I-35 and 183, and the breakfast was OK, though the coffee was horrible. The heater/AC was there, but the unit wasn’t sealed well and cold air came in underneath it by the window. The place is a bit run-down and dirty. In my first room, the smoke detector kept chirping, and some kind of fan squeaked all day and night. There wasn’t a coffee maker either. I asked for another room for the second night and got one without any trouble. Lots of people were smoking in their rooms, and it seemed like many families lived at the hotel. There were also a few transients outside at all hours. You get what you pay for.

The staff were very friendly, but the hotel itself was disgusting. The walls were dirty, and the whole place reeked of cigarette smoke. I was on a non-smoking floor, yet smoke still came into the room through the vents. It didn’t look like it had been cleaned since it was built. The layout was odd too. I took the elevator to my level, then had to go down four random stairs. That meant lifting all my bags off the cart and carrying them the rest of the way to the room. I wouldn’t recommend it.

It worked fine for a quick overnight stop, and there was a lot of local traffic passing through. The breakfast bar was a nice extra, though nothing special. At checkout, the motel staff tried to charge me another $10 and couldn’t explain why. That alone is enough for me to say good night to this Days Inn.
