The hostel has a welcoming, home-like feel, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Stores and restaurants are close by, and everything I needed was within reach. There's a TV room where people gather and meet, the shared bathroom was clean, and there's morning coffee. Public transport seemed easy to access too. I didn't use it, but I saw buses just around the corner. The neighborhood had a great vibe, and I had a great stay.

I love staying here, and the staff are very accommodating. I hadn't booked multiple nights in advance, so for some reason I ended up in a mixed dorm, but they let me switch back to the all-girls room. They had something planned for Thanksgiving, which was a nice gesture for travelers, but I fell asleep and missed it. It feels like a safe place to sleep. Sharing a space means there will be some noise, but it wasn't excessive.

The staff were really nice, and the bathroom was private and pleasant. I stayed one night for a conference, and the place was easy to find. As you'd expect at any hostel, other guests can be unpredictable. The room was damp and didn't ventilate well, so if someone had strong BO, you'd notice right away.

The setup behind the street is a nice place to hang out, with a pool table and outdoor space, and Guadalupe near UT is a handy location. During my week at Drifter Jack's in April 2019, I met young travelers from all over and found it easy to connect. The resident staff had made the place feel welcoming and relaxed, with people chatting or sometimes heading out together, all pretty open-minded. The practical stuff was good too: clean rooms, comfortable hostel beds, hot showers with solid pressure, free laundry machines, and helpful people. I really don't have complaints. Kip was around then, and if he's still there, get a tattoo from him. He's a pro.

There's art and expression on nearly every wall, and the neighborhood has plenty of great coffeeshops, places to eat, and spots to hang out. The whole place feels colorful and relaxed. The staff and other guests were kind, interesting, and ready to help, and the culture really encourages respect. I felt like I was friends with people almost as soon as I walked in. If the atmosphere matters most to you, this area works well. I'd come back to Austin just to stay at Drifter Jack's again.
