Mint House Austin - South Congress

We rented a roomy two-bedroom apartment with a fully functional kitchen, and the location was superb, surrounded by shops and restaurants. There was plenty of parking on site, and getting there was much easier than we'd expected. Gerry on the management team was responsive and accommodating.

We're here right now in a very nice, spacious two-bedroom apartment. The layout and the place impressed us when we first arrived, but the nights have been rough. The bed frame broke while we were asleep last night, and we had to rig it so it would stay put. The washing machine outside the second bedroom shook so violently that it slid sideways and banged into the wall, waking our daughter. Tonight there's a wild party right outside. The walls are so thin it sounds like the DJ is in our room. Neither our daughter nor we can sleep, so tomorrow's travel day will be interesting. I'm trying the living room floor since it's at least a little quieter. Nice roomy place, but I wouldn't recommend it if you need the appliances or uninterrupted nights.

The South Congress spot is close to lots of shops and restaurants, as well as Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake. The space was nicely decorated, and the sheets were good quality. Having a washer and dryer in the unit was handy. I only wished there'd been an ice maker or ice trays in the freezer. Also, the manager, Cesar, is smoking hot!

I reserved months ahead when I bought my tickets for the Formula One event in Austin, and the booking was confirmed. Then they suddenly raised the nightly price to almost four times what I'd booked. They told me, “Unfortunately, the booking you made was at an incorrect price that was much lower than the correct rate.” That makes no sense and isn't fair. People book early to avoid price gouging during these events. Apparently they were the only hotel in Austin that hadn't heard about the event. They did nothing to accommodate my reservation. I ended up rebooking at a hotel completely outside the area I wanted, because everything else was sold out or already at ridiculous prices. I'm very dissatisfied with how they handled my booking.
