Orangewood Inn & Suites Midtown

Construction made the turn into the parking lot a bit awkward, but the weekend was otherwise amazing. The rooms were clean and nice, and breakfast was decent, with plenty of choices and enough waffle makers that we never had to wait.

The highway noise made it almost impossible to rest, and the hotel looks dated. It's right beside a busy road, with no clear sign for the entrance, so you can easily drive past it. The place also smells, and the rooms don't look as clean or nice as the photos suggest. They took a $100 refundable deposit at check-in without mentioning it beforehand. This is an atrocious dump, and the low price makes sense. We wish we hadn't paid to stay here, and we want our money back.

The front desk staff were very nice, and the place was super clean and convenient. Breakfast was amazing, and there was security around the property. I don't know whether that was because of the rodeo or if it's always there. I'd definitely book here again if I needed to.

I was exhausted after being up for almost 24 hours and spending the day with my sister. It was 2 AM, and after I tried to check in, I was told about a new policy requiring guests to be 21 or older if checking in alone. I'm 18, so they wouldn't let me in. I was left outside in the freezing cold and had to drive across Austin to my sister's. I was so tired that I considered sleeping in my car because driving didn't feel safe. I cried to the person at the front desk and explained that nobody had told me about the policy change, even though they knew who I was. I'd used this hotel for business in the summer without any problems, and I'd called ahead to say I'd be arriving late. They still hadn't mentioned the age policy on the phone. They should tell people about it when they book by phone. I had reserved a room in advance and just needed somewhere to sleep, but they wouldn't let me check in. After being turned away like that, I'll never come back.
