Residence Inn by Marriott Austin Airport

I was only about five minutes from the hotel when an email arrived saying my reservation had been canceled because of some issues. They had booked me at a nearby place for the same rate, so I wasn't too worried at first. When I called, the woman confirmed there were issues and said the other hotel was very close, with a shuttle if I needed it. But when my job's travel department called, they were told Residence Inn was sold out. I had booked more than a week earlier, so I don't understand why I was given a different explanation. The alternate hotel had a lower rating and not the room type I had chosen. I’m picky about where I book, and I wouldn’t have picked that one because of its reviews. I was also told I’d receive points for the inconvenience, but only after my employer, which lists Residence Inn as a preferred hotel, called. The woman at the other hotel had no idea about the points and called Residence Inn. I heard the same employee say she couldn't explain them because I had ended the call, even though she had been on speaker and I hadn't rushed her. She'd said the shuttle was available and then ended the conversation. She also had to ask her manager how many points I’d get, so I don’t see how she could have explained them when I first called. I would have appreciated a call about the cancellation instead of an email. They won't need to worry about me on my Austin trips every 6-8 weeks over the next few years.
