I was glad the staff were so accommodating when I asked to move away from the barking, and the property itself was beautiful and had a fun vibe. The location is great too, within walking distance of the trail and Zilker Park. I had a nice stay overall. The southeast side is right above a dog boarding facility. Loud barking started at 5am and went on through the day. The earplugs and sound machine didn’t do much, and I can’t imagine sleeping well in those rooms. It’s not Carpenter’s fault who the neighbors are, but they could consider adding more soundproofing there. The restaurant didn’t have much for vegan meals. The only options were crudite and side potatoes, neither a meal. At this price and level, I’d expect a veggie patty substitution or a proper vegan hot entree. For breakfast, I asked to replace the eggs and cheese on the avocado toast with potatoes. They did, but charged full price for the toast as if it still came with eggs and charged full price for the side potatoes too. With drip coffee, breakfast came to $40 for one person.

The attached coffee shop was handy for getting a cup or working, and the restaurant was a nice place to eat or unwind. The bed was reasonably comfortable, and the rooms were spacious and quiet, with great insulation. They have concrete floors, so you might want to ask for slippers. The open closet setup is a little weird. The hotel took especially good care of us during the blizzard.

The room had a nice patio, and everything seemed thoughtfully laid out, including a board explaining the amenities. The rooms are small and pretty standard, but they’ve all been redone and feel new, especially the bathrooms. We loved the plants, and the grounds have a pool, coffee shop, and place to eat. We had a nice staycation weekend. Service was great: when we reported a small room issue, they fixed it quickly and comped one night of parking. The location is great, and we’d stay again.

The Carpenter was a really cool place to stay. I’m writing mostly to recognize Bianca at the front desk. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and settled. Thanks, Bianca, for taking such good care of us.

Sailor at The Carpenter Hotel made a difficult situation during my stay much easier. She listened and made me feel understood, then came up with a thoughtful solution instead of stopping at an apology. She handled everything with real kindness and went well beyond what she needed to do. I’m grateful for her support. That kind of care is what makes a stay stick with you. Thank you, Sailor.
