Econo Lodge Sebring

The room was 84 degrees when I checked in, smelled like shiz, and the TV was trash. The remote had no batteries, and nobody seemed to care. If this had cost $60, maybe that’s what you’d expect, but it didn’t. Save yourself the letdown, unless you smell like this room, in which case you might like it.

This was the worst experience, even for an Econo Lodge. They canceled a reservation I’d already made, then made my husband pay for a new one for the same day. They wouldn’t refund even the cheaper booking, though they knew it had been made online through Priceline. They also maneuvered him into signing as if we’d ever come back for another night. Never again. I wish he’d taken photos or video of how nasty it was. I’ll tell my family and text people in the many churches my friends and family attend. They’ve lost thousands of potential customers.

The strongest impression was the moldy smell in the room, along with a booger smeared on the wall. The place also felt poorly maintained: the bed skirts looked like they’d been wiped with a dust rag, furniture was falling apart or torn, the flooring was lifting and buckling, toilets didn’t work properly, and bathroom sinks leaked whenever used. The mini fridge leaked water onto the floor, a slipping hazard especially for anyone with a disability. The fridges looked disgusting, though I didn’t check closely enough to tell if they were rusty or dirty. There were dirty AC filters, duct tape on door handles, and peepholes covered because they’d been drilled too low. The microwaves were too small to fit popcorn, and the continental breakfast couldn’t even manage a regular-sized muffin. The rooms aren’t accessible just because there are sidewalk ramps. Someone in a wheelchair can’t get to the bathroom. My father stayed here last year and became extremely ill after leaving because of an autoimmune disease we didn’t know he had. I honestly thought we might lose him. I didn’t think much of the hotel until they stayed here again this year. If you care about your health, I wouldn’t go here.

Years ago, I couldn’t last even 30 minutes in the room where my family was staying because the mold smell made me sick. There was mold all over the floor, the refrigerator, and leaky pipes, plus dirty bed skirts and AC filters. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. I’d rather sleep in a tent on I 4 during rush hour.
