Avon Old Farms

The location is excellent and the exterior looks lovely, but the rooms badly need investment. The hotel dates to the 50's, and inside it feels like no money has been spent since then. The window had a small air conditioner. Neither nightstand light worked, nor did the safe. The hair dryer was broken, though the front desk gave us a replacement. The bathroom sink looked stained or dirty, and you had to hold the toilet flipper down until it finished flushing. The ironing board was bent and sloped when set up. There’s no elevator, so luggage has to go up an old metal outdoor staircase to the second floor. I’d recommend staying somewhere else.

The room felt neglected, though it was very clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Several small things needed attention: the hairdryer was cracked and wouldn't turn on, the bathroom door wouldn't stay open, the closet door wouldn't shut, and the sink drained slowly. There was also a wedding right outside our window, loud until about 2:30 AM. It's a really cute hotel, but some upgrades and attention to these little details would make the stay more enjoyable without much effort.

For the price, there are better options nearby. The room was below standard, and neither the heat nor the hair dryer worked effectively. We booked a room that included breakfast, but what was offered was cold cereal, bread, rotten bananas, and picked over scrambled eggs. There was no yogurt or fresh fruit. Even as a continental breakfast, it was disappointing. It felt more like a motel stay at a Marriott price, though the location was good.

After a day of work travel, I had pretty much everything I needed. The little touches made the stay stand out: truffle chocolates on the night stand, wine and cheese when I arrived, and a grand piano in one of the lobby’s. I stay in hotels a lot, and details like those really do make a difference. I appreciate it. Keep it up.
