I appreciated hearing from Manager Deni after the stay. She acknowledged the problems and said they have plans to improve. I added a star for that effort, and would consider trying the place again if I get the chance. I’d expect to see some improvement on a return visit. At first our stay at TownePlace was good, but halfway through it went bad. The rooms were comfortable, with a small but useful kitchen, and we liked the modern bathroom. The location wasn’t ideal. The shuttle to Beaver Creek and Vail ran infrequently, and without public shuttles we had little flexibility. They also charged for parking despite the location not being that far away. We booked because guests could use the hot tub. At check-in, the desk said it was open until 10 p.m. When we went in, staff came at 8 p.m. and said it had to close. We got barely five minutes. They said ice around the pool and stairs made it dangerous below 15F. If it was unsafe, why list the hot tub online and tell us it would stay open until 10? Why let us into the pool area at all? They should have closed it after sunset at 5 p.m. When I asked for a manager, I was told to contact them the next day. The staff member seemed afraid of being blamed for passing a guest complaint along at 8 p.m. We were told the police would be called if we didn’t leave the pool, instead of having a manager speak with us and offer a solution or compensation. The “outstanding” hospitality and “terrific” management left me disappointed with how we were treated and how the problem was handled. I’ve read the owner’s replies asking unhappy guests to give them another chance. If that’s sincere, they should offer a refund or voucher for a future booking, not just a cheap apology.

I stayed here last year and had an excellent experience, but this year's visit was a huge downgrade. The other front desk staff were polite and helpful, which made Gleni's poor attitude as front desk manager stand out even more. I’m a Titanium Elite member and have stayed at enough hotels to make a fair assessment. Gleni is the reason I won’t return. One person in the wrong role can ruin an otherwise decent hotel. My first room wasn’t the type I had booked. When I went back, the next room smelled strongly of something like insecticide or chemicals, so I couldn’t stay in it. I asked for another room, and Gleni coldly told me it would be the “last time” they changed it, as though I’d done something wrong. That was ridiculous and unacceptable. She also spoke loudly in Spanish to staff in front of guests. I didn’t know who she was talking about, but it felt rude and unprofessional in a guest-facing setting. Her attitude was shockingly bad, and it made me question how someone with so little awareness of good service became a manager.

The new hotel is nice, but the operation needs work. There are two banners, and it’s confusing because they come with different amenities. The hotel also charges extra fees that aren’t disclosed on the Marriott app or website. And the sofa bed is so hard it’s basically like sleeping on the floor.

At checkout we spotted a parking charge even though we didn’t have a car. We got it removed, thankfully, but it shouldn’t have been added in the first place. The room was cute, though the bed was so uncomfortable it gave us back pain. Shower pressure was very low, making it hard to wash my hair, and breakfast was just okay. We’d booked a mountain view room through Expedia. At arrival, the front desk insisted their system showed a “normal” room, even after we showed the confirmation stating mountain view. Once we called Expedia, a mountain view room suddenly became available. Between that desk experience, the room problems, and the billing mistake, I wouldn’t recommend the place.

We ended up staying at TownePlace Suites in Avon much longer than planned because of my partner’s injury. The rooms are spacious, the beds are fantastic, and the whole property felt spotless, modern, and beautifully maintained. What really made the stay was the team. Everyone made us feel comfortable and at home, with warm greetings every day and thoughtful little gestures. Glenn, Izzy, Connor, Margaret, Johnny, and Castle especially made a difference. This is a great place to stay in Avon for both the comfort and the people.
