Suburban Studios Avondale

The second night I moved to another room, but the whole floor smelled like weed and the room itself smelled like black and milds. On the first night there was no hot water, and that room smelled moldy. I'm never staying here again.

We stayed with a couple of friends and loved the place. Room service was about an 8/10. We hit a few snags, but they weren't anything major and didn't spoil the stay. Courtney at the front desk was especially welcoming and kind. In all the hotels I've stayed at, front desk service is rarely this warm or genuine. She made us feel at home, and I'd come back because of her. I'd recommend it for a comfortable stay with friendly staff.

The shower was great, the bed felt good, and it's quiet here. Nice place so far, and I'd stay again if I just needed somewhere to sleep. Just know it's a studio, so things like glasses, an ice bucket, and a coffee maker aren't provided. The kitchen is limited to a two-burner cooktop and microwave, though the refrigerator is full size.

After driving seven hours, I expected to check in and rest. Instead, I spent more than two hours in the parking lot before having to find a room elsewhere. The lobby doors were locked and required a keycard to get in. A wall phone said to dial 0 for help; I did, and heard the front desk phone ring, but no one was there. A sign said “Out of Office.” I thought perhaps someone had briefly stepped away, so I got food across the street. Half an hour later, no one had appeared to let me in or check me in. I spent the rest of the time dealing with Chase to cancel my Chase Travel reservation, which was its own ordeal. No staff showed up during those two hours. I wouldn't stay somewhere with no staff available. What if a guest needs towels after a spill, has an emergency, gets injured and responders can't get through the front door, or there's a fire? I also wonder if anyone was there for the 3:00 check-in time or for guests arriving later, and how many others had to fight their bank over cancellations and find somewhere else. I can't fathom leaving the property, guests, and reservations unattended. Never go here. Nothing could convince me to return. Oddly enough, the man who checked us in at the place we went instead used to work here. His name was Marlon, and he was helpful and attentive. Too bad he wasn't still there when we arrived.
