Ridges Inn & Suites

We were really happy with the room for the price. Our reserved room had an issue, so we were upgraded, and the jacuzzi tub and fireplace were lovely. The beds worked well for us too, since we found we sleep better on softer mattresses. It was the quiet season at the end of April, and the grounds were peaceful. At check-in, Andrew spent about 15 minutes suggesting places to visit and sights to see, which helped a lot since we hadn't done much trip planning.

There's no WiFi, and when we left there wasn't any cell phone service either. The room was filthy, the carpet and bathroom were gross, and there was a horrible smell. The linens were stained and looked like they had human feces on them, and the blankets had holes. It smelled so bad I wanted to sleep in my car. The toilet clogged several times, and staff asked whether we'd tried plunging it. They seemed clueless and didn't care about guests' experience. They made false promises, then ignored requests for basic improvements. This was a huge disappointment for DC and for the price. It's the worst place in the county, and I have pictures to prove it. Believe the reviews and book somewhere else.

After ten years of coming here, I won't be back. The front desk service at check-in was poor, and the man stayed seated. I didn't feel welcome from the beginning. The balcony was in bad shape, with rot and chipped paint on the railing that gave me a splinter. Its furniture was broken and dirty, the screen door was torn, and the balcony light didn't work. Inside, the freezer had about two inches of ice and a crooked door, the pillows were flat and yellow, and the carpet needed vacuuming and shampooing. The bathroom fixtures were old and the caulk was cracked and in rough shape. Not a good visit. The place needs staff and owners who care.

The setting is the one real plus: the property borders a sanctuary, and the location is wonderful. The water was hot, too. Otherwise, there's little sign of maintenance. The balconies are rotting, the carpet is ripped, and the stained furniture was extremely uncomfortable. The WiFi was so unreliable that it shouldn't be listed as an amenity. I've stayed here three times over the past nine years, and this was my last.
