Baymont by Wyndham Bakersfield

We couldn’t get a good night’s sleep here. There was hair on the sheet, so we had to get clean ones and remake the bed ourselves, and the bathroom door squeaked badly. The bathroom sink had no hot water. The room also had bumpy vinyl flooring, light coming in around the drapes, and no proper clock. There was no coffee in the room, and the only outlets by the bed were for phone charging, with nowhere to plug in a laptop. The continental breakfast was very meager. Worst motel we’ve stayed in for over 50 years.

I was unsure when I arrived late, but the staff returned my call quickly and welcomed me so kindly that I decided to stay three nights instead of one. The room was spotless, comfortable, and much nicer than I expected, with beautiful updates. Staff were respectful and never rushed me. At 4 a.m., they even helped me get back into my room within minutes. A few long-term residents were curious, but it didn’t affect my stay. Wonderful room and hospitality. I’ll be back.

Inside, the remodeled room was really nice and the bed was comfortable. Outside, though, it felt sketchy and smelled like cat pee. The website and app promise coffee and grab-and-go breakfast, but the office was locked in the morning. There was no coffee there or coffee maker in the room. That felt like false advertising.

A cool place to stay, and the rooms are clean. The hospitality could use a little more attention, but I’d love to come back soon. By the way, are we celebrating together for Christmas and New Year?
