I'd lived in Bakersfield for seven years and worked down the street for years without knowing this decent hotel was tucked away on Oak Street. I was called there to groom a dog belonging to management, possibly the owner. The parking is fairly spacious, and the lobby door is kept locked; you ring the bell and a sweet woman at the desk lets you in. She was pleasant and called the person I was there to see. The lobby was spacious and clean, and the place had a calm, family-owned feel. I was allowed to use the bathroom in a ground-floor handicap business suite a few doors from the office. It looked like an executive suite, with a full-size desk and an accessible shower and bathroom, and it was very clean with no smoke smell. I told the manager I was shocked to find such a nice place. If you're traveling in a wheelchair, that room seems perfect, close to the office and set back from the less savory hotels nearby. The landscaping is nice, and there are International cuisine options within walking distance, including Filipino, Vietnamese, Mexican, pizza, and fast food. A hidden gem in Bakersfield.

For a quick night, it did the job. The room was clean and the staff friendly, though the shampoo bottle was empty and there was no body soap. I would've liked a lighter curtain behind the blackout one, so I could let in daylight and still have privacy. It was a little noisy, including a tow truck arriving in the middle of the night, but overall it was fine for what I needed.

The room didn't look anything like the pictures. It seemed and smelled filthy, and mine specifically smelled like vomit. The floorboards were old and warped, especially in the restroom. They'd also left out bath towels, so I had to get them from reception. I wasn't happy with the stay.

I was nervous about booking this inn after reading earlier reviews, but the customer service at red roof was great. The front desk woman with black hair and colored eyes was friendly and accommodating. The room was decent for the price. If you want an affordable place with staff who go out of their way to help, this is it. I have no complaints about the red roof.

The staff were super nice, and when we were tired, the front desk let us extend checkout by 30 minutes so we could sleep a little longer. The room was very clean and had a mini fridge, microwave, coffee machine, TV, desk, and lamp. The AC worked great, and the bathroom was big. The tap-style key cards made it easy to get into the room with our hands full, no sliding or inserting needed.
