The location is the only reason I can give this place even one star. The convention center is a one-minute walk away, which is why I booked this Days Inn despite the negative reviews. I travel often for work and have stayed in hotels around the world. This was the poorest customer service I’ve experienced. It seems the hotel relies on its unbeatable location while neglecting basic responsibilities to guests. I expected an old hotel, but the third-floor hallway smelled unpleasant, as though the carpet hadn’t been deep-cleaned in years. The room had the same odor, and the headboard paint was peeling and looked dirty and neglected. There was no hair dryer. I asked four times: first by calling the front desk from the room, where I was told one was behind the door, though it wasn’t there; then in person downstairs, where someone said they’d find one; then from housekeeping, who acknowledged the request; and finally the next day, when another desk employee said guests had broken all the available dryers. Nothing came of the earlier requests, so I had to air-dry my hair each day. After that first call, I couldn’t reach anyone through either the room phone or my cell. Calls were disconnected or ignored. The only way I got through was by calling the hotel’s reservation line. Breakfast was the most basic I’ve ever seen at a hotel: just a few slices of bread and bagels, with almost nothing else. Anyone expecting even a modest continental breakfast will be disappointed.

It was a comfortable stay, and I liked having a big room with a couch and plenty of space to walk around. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated the morning coffee and bagels. The washing machine worked, though the dryer left my clothes a little damp. Management might want to look into getting a better one.

The concert venue is close, and that was the only thing I liked. We waited almost an hour for a room key that didn’t work, then had to stand in line again. The room cost $200 a night for two beds that weren’t very comfortable. There was a nice fridge and a microwave, if that matters to you. The carpet badly needs replacing, with mystery stains and smells throughout the stay. Breakfast was only yogurt, cereal, and white bread. For what they charge, they could at least offer muffins or sausages. There’s nowhere to refill a water bottle, so you have to pay a ridiculous amount for a plastic one. Update: the hotel said it would cover the parking ticket, but never told us we had to bring it in that night. We assumed we could hand it over with the room key. The woman at the front desk then said nothing could be done, which was ridiculous.

The breakfast choices were minimal, and the location was only okay. The property was very disappointing overall, old and dated, and not up to the Wyndham name. At least the check-in and checkout were smooth, and the staff were pleasantly helpful. When the first room had a terrible, stinking odor, they moved us right away.

The front desk service was very good. The person I dealt with was friendly and accommodating. The room itself was just okay, with poor paint and stains on the furniture, floor, and curtains. The door had clearly been broken into at some point and felt very loose. Still, given the lower price compared with nearby hotels, I’d come back for a night or two. The convention center is only about a two-minute walk away.
