Flying L Ranch Resort

The scenery made the stay feel special, and Cowboy Buck added plenty of fun. He was generous and hilarious, hosted a bonfire with s’mores, and even took our group for a tractor ride beneath the stars. One of my favorite trips.

The cowboy feel really fits this resort. We had a great time around the bonfire with s’mores, then rode in Cowboy Buck’s tractor wagon and watched a mesmerizing meteor shower. The rooms are spacious, the appliances are great, and the scenery is excellent.

The restaurant was a highlight, with some of the best hamburgers I’ve had in a long time, and the service staff were genuinely friendly and glad to have us. The resort also has lots of amenities. Our group of four received wristbands for the pool, Putt Putt Golf, the campfire, s’mores, and the hayride when we checked in for five nights. We took the bands off while sightseeing because bright pink wristbands make you look like a tourist. When we asked for replacements the next day, we were told about the resort’s past issues with locals using the pool without permission. That wasn’t our concern, since we were registered guests, but the front desk employee initially refused and only reluctantly gave us new bands. The website had made the place sound welcoming to families and groups, so that interaction left me with little interest in spending more time or money at the Flying L Resort. There was nobody in the pool when we first asked. On our last day, there were fifteen people there and we were the only ones wearing wristbands. Check your videos.

We played 18 holes on 3/12/26 with golf friends, and it was our first time at this course. The drive from San Antonio takes about an hour, but the trip was well worth it. The course was in excellent shape, with beautiful greens and challenging but fair holes. Everyone working there was friendly and eager to help. It was a lovely drive and a very enjoyable round. Thanks for the experience, we’ll be back.
