Quality Inn Bangor Airport

I've used Quality Inns and Choice Hotels for decades, but the quality has slipped over the past few years. The recent renovation, including wood floors instead of carpet, had raised my hopes, but that was the only thing I liked. Light came around the sides of the curtains, and the big mirrors made the room feel even brighter. My room hadn't been cleaned thoroughly: the counters and sink had smears and a white substance, the fridge door had dried liquid down its front, and the tissue holder was empty. The towels weren't cotton and I needed three full-size ones to dry off after a shower. The sheets also weren't cotton and felt very cheap. I don't understand cutting corners on those basics. I meant to tell staff in the morning, but the front desk ignored me. I won't return or choose a Choice property again. Marriott and its brands meet a much higher standard.

I usually avoid Quality Inns, but this stay changed my mind a bit. The renovated room was beautiful and comfortable, and the local Maine coffee was so good that it made a real difference to my morning. I normally stop somewhere for coffee on the way out, but didn't need to this time. I'd stay here again if I'm back in Bangor, Maine.

The service was good and the stay was decent overall. There was a slight smoke smell in my room, but opening the window helped. For $110 a night, I expected breakfast to include bacon and hard-boiled eggs.

My first stay here was a real disappointment, especially since I'd brought my family for New Year's Eve. The blankets were dirty, there were cockroaches on the walls, fingerprints on the mirror, dust built up on the hair dryer, and a bug nest on the bathroom ceiling. I checked for bedbugs and didn't find any, but I really hope there aren't any.
