Anne's White Columns Inn

We were especially grateful for the thoughtful breakfast Anne packed for our early departure: an egg sandwich, sweet bread, and an apple. That kind of care ran through our three nights in the Ban-y-Byrn room. Bob was a warm, welcoming host, and the whole inn felt peaceful. The house and bedroom were beautiful, the bed was comfortable, and the shower had a refreshing feel and strong pressure. Andy served a delicious breakfast in the sunny room, with tablecloths and cloth napkins. Later, there was wine and cheese at 5:00, then fresh cookies in the evening, plus coffee whenever we wanted it. We also loved relaxing on the deck. Shops and the shore were a pleasant 10-minute walk away, and private off-street parking was very convenient. Every detail felt considered, and the hospitality was wonderful. We highly recommend Anne’s White Columns Inn!

Witchcliff was comfortable, and the location made it easy to get around downtown. Breakfast was fantastic on both mornings, so filling that we took the pastries along as hiking snacks. The staff were friendly and full of useful ideas for things to see, do, and eat. The room did have some drawbacks: the bedspread and furniture were quite worn, though everything was clean and worked fine, and the shower pressure was great. For the price and location, it’s hard to beat, especially if you don’t plan to spend much time in the room.

It felt like a cute, welcoming home rather than a hotel, and the service was flawless. Bob came by during breakfast to chat with guests. The food was very good, even the quiche, though I’m not an egg fan. Being able to walk to the main shopping area saved us money on downtown parking, and eating breakfast here each morning helped too. Our room was small but fine for two. I would’ve liked a mini fridge or shared fridge, and more outlets near the bed for charging devices. I expected more noise with rooms so close together, but guests were considerate. I could hear doors opening and closing, yet it was quieter than most hotels. We’d definitely come back.

The employees were great, and we enjoyed the breakfast and happy hour. Downtown Bar Harbor is a short walk away. The place has character, though it was a bit pricey. Our room was pretty cold and had no thermostat, plus just one tiny towel rack. If you book here, try to get a room with a thermostat.
