The Elmhurst Inn

The breakfasts were wonderful every morning, and the innkeeper was exceptionally friendly and personable. She also had great suggestions for local lunch and dinner spots. Our room was lovely, though privacy was quite limited. The outside of the building looked a little rundown next to the surrounding places. It was the off season, though, so perhaps they were waiting for tourist season to spruce it up.

The bed was VERY comfortable, and tea time was a fun, thoughtful extra. Breakfast and the breakfast room were both so cute, with an amazing selection. Our host was very nice and friendly. I only wish we'd been able to use the fireplace. She said they were switching to electric, so it wasn't in use at the time. Main Street was close enough that we walked there for dinner every night, and it wasn't a bad walk at all. 10/10, I'd recommend a visit!

Cheryl makes sure we have everything we need, and the morning meals are terrific. Each day offers a choice of two dishes, all served hot and delicious. We love that the food is made fresh instead of the prepackaged stuff some B&Bs are starting to offer. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and I highly recommend the Cadillac Suite. The Elmhurst Inn is well located and has plenty of parking, so we just left the car and walked to the shops and restaurants. The Village Green is a short walk away, where you can catch the free Island Explorer to Acadia National Park. We strongly recommend the bus since parking in the park is pretty much impossible in season. Last week was our second visit to Bar Harbor and the Elmhurst Inn, and we'll definitely be back. Cheryl had hot coffee and a range of teas ready in the common area. Each morning she also packed us an early breakfast to take on our first hikes: egg sandwiches with cheese and spinach on English muffins, plus extra fruit and a different pastry each day. They were delicious, and the muffin tasted homemade. We stayed in the Bass Harbor Head room at the end of the hall. It felt tucked away, cozy, quiet, and peaceful. The bed was very comfortable, the water pressure was amazing, and the tap water was strangely delicious and crystal clear. It was such a cozy stay, with a great location within walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor proper and close to nearby Acadia trails. Thank you for a lovely visit, Cheryl!
