Armistead Cottage

The porch is a lovely place to start the morning or relax after a busy day, and I kept finding new, interesting things in the carrot room. There are only three rooms, so it’s quiet, and breakfast conversations feel small and friendly. Charles and Tonya made very good breakfasts and worked around my gluten allergy. Charles was a great host, his suggestions were spot on, and I enjoyed hearing stories from his earlier careers and life. The bed creaked a little, though it was comfortable, and the shower pressure could’ve been better. Neither issue was enough to worry about. We’d stay again and recommend it.

We had a great weekend away at Armistead Cottage. Charles welcomed us warmly and had helpful suggestions for the area. Our room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was better than anything we could’ve found downtown. We enjoyed stories and laughs over the meal, too. And the carrot room deserves a mention. It has the most impressive collection of anything I’ve ever seen. That made the stay one of a kind. Thanks, Charles, for the hospitality and laughs!

We only found Armistead Cottage by chance. My boyfriend and I had booked somewhere else in Newport, but on the day we were supposed to check in, we were told the reservation had been canceled. I’m grateful it worked out that way, because our stay at the cottage in November 2021 became one of my best travel experiences. The house still amazes me for how unique it is, but I remember Charles most. He and his assistant were incredibly kind, and we felt so welcome. The meals, amenities, and people were all wonderful. I still think about the visit and hope to return soon. If you’re heading to Newport, Armistead is a perfect place to stay.

Our rooms at Armistead Cottage B &B were adorable, clean, and quite spacious. The neighborhood was quiet and residential, yet within a 20-minute walk of both the beach and downtown. We had a lovely long weekend and would book again on our next Newport visit. Romana was a highlight. She welcomed us warmly, shared great tips for Newport’s food and history, and made thoughtful, stylish three-course breakfasts each morning. I have a mild cat allergy and was a little concerned, but the cats stayed in a separate area and the rooms were exceptionally clean, so I had no problem. The stay had all the homey quirks of a coastal New England B&B and exceeded what we expected.
