Firehouse Inn

Staying in an old firehouse is a unique concept, and once we got to the room it was well appointed. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room even had an ADA compliant shower, which was surprising given the access issues. The rooms are upstairs above a working restaurant. You enter through a side door, pass the kitchen and staff locker room, and the unpleasant smell carries up to the guest hallway. There’s no elevator, and all rooms are on the second floor. Getting in means climbing two cement steps with no railing, then a steep, dim staircase that apparently passed code nearly a century ago. Guests who need ADA compliant access should be aware of that. A group of unhoused people often spent time in the parking lot, but they never harassed us.

Valerie was a warm, accommodating host, and the old firehouse has a lot of charm. The renovated rooms feel like spacious suites, with modern comforts. We could walk to things to see and do around town. It was a very cool stay, and I’m looking forward to coming back in winter.

We were really excited to stay here after reading the reviews, but got a call four days before our reservation saying they'd double booked. We had to find somewhere else, which cost more and was farther from the wedding we were attending. If you book here, have a backup plan.

The restaurant downstairs was a real bonus, especially the wood fired pizza. It did get very quiet once it closed at 21:00. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, and the bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. Everyone on staff we spoke with was courteous and friendly. Definitely recommend.
