Bastrop Inn

I don't write reviews often, but this was the worst hotel experience I've had. The room smelled awful, there was black mold in the bathroom, and appliances were broken. The staff on duty offered no help. I left without staying because the conditions seemed unsafe, and management refused to refund me.

The room had water leak stains on the ceiling, dirty walls with missing paint, and disgusting pillows. There was a coffee pot but no coffee. The property is kept so badly it should be illegal, and it was way overpriced for what it offers. There was no pool, breakfast, or front lobby. Absolutely the nastiest hotel I've ever seen.

I paid cash weekly for six months, and every time they counted it three or four times, gave me a receipt and new key, then called me at work four hours later to say I was short. The coin washer took my money about every other time, and the owner didn't have a key. The dryer had been out for three months and there was no sign on it. Appliances were another problem. The refrigerator stopped working and it took two days for the man to look at it. He plugged it in a few times, turned the temperature down, and told me to give it another day before bringing a replacement. A few months later the microwave caught fire. I unplugged it and put it outside, then told him. He didn't come until the next day, after I reminded him. He brought it back in and plugged it in, and it caught fire again. He then took one from the next room. I don't recommend this place at all.

When you arrive, the place looks abandoned. A sign in the lobby says “Closed for your safety,” and check-in happens through a little mailbox-sized window. The room smelled of mothballs and pot, and the furniture felt sticky. After we washed the towels, they turned yellow. I had to reattach the loose toilet seat, and there was water damage and staining on the ceiling. The rooms and doors need paint, the ceilings need patching, the bathroom vents need cleaning, and the door cracks need repair. This is one of the dirtiest places we've stayed while traveling around Texas and Oklahoma. If you can, pay the extra $15 to $20 per night for one of the newer, nicer hotels in Bastrop.
