Courtyard® by Marriott® Baton Rouge South

The front desk associates were nice, but they couldn't make up for how disappointing this stay was. I'm a Silver Elite member and usually choose Marriott, so this was easily my worst Marriott experience. I shortened the trip and drove back to Houston. The hallways needed vacuuming, and the large trash can by the front door was overflowing. I chose this hotel over cheaper nearby Marriotts because my four-year-old loves swimming and I wanted the heated indoor pool. It was out of order, and I wish that had been disclosed when booking so I could have chosen somewhere else. We had no swimming all weekend, and my toddler had a meltdown. On Saturday night we needed towels and bar soap, but the room phone didn't work and even showed the wrong room number. I had to call the front desk on my cell, and was told to come down and collect them because nobody could bring them. With a toddler, that was a real inconvenience, and a dead room phone also felt unsafe in an emergency. The towels were awful too: the face towels were paper thin and fell apart with very little pressure. This just wasn't what I'm used to at a Marriott.

The rooms were clean, and the staff were friendly and accommodating, but the place felt badly neglected. Doors wouldn't close properly and the A/C cover was coming off. The pool was a letdown: there was lots of water damage on the roof, the water had a green tint, and the "hot tub" was room temperature. The pictures online didn't show this actual location.

I won't stay here again. After the first night, I expected the room to be serviced, but all they did was rehang the towels. The bed was still unmade and the floor was filthy. There were dead bugs in the light, no water or coffee refills, and I didn't even shower because I figured I'd come out dirty. The room was already awful when I arrived: what looked like blood stains all over the mattress, a toilet that seemed not to have been cleaned in ages, unvacuumed carpet, no soap, and a moldy shower. I paid for an expensive hotel and got treatment like a $60-a-night place.

I made a huge mistake choosing this Marriott, 30 minutes from my company's office, when a Hilton was five minutes away. This felt more like a motel than a Marriott. In my second room, the toilet paper holder fell off the wall when I sat down. The carpet by the closet had a mystery wet stain, so my socks were not happy. There was no body lotion or laundry bag either. The first room they gave me as a loyal member had four lamps, but only two worked and together they lit maybe five percent of the room. I called the front desk to ask about switching, waited two minutes with no answer, and gave up. I'm a proud 27-year-old Gen-Z and usually would rather be uncomfortable than bother someone, but this room was unacceptable. The lights didn't work, some were missing, and the surfaces looked like things you wouldn't want to touch. Marriott became MarriNOT, IMO. Bye. Hey Hilton, you up?
