Econo Lodge Baton Rouge

We had a great two-day stay, especially for such a low price. The room was very clean, and the staff kept up with housekeeping. The owner was sweet and let us keep the microwave in our room for the time being. It’s an older building, but he told us the rooms had been renovated, and you could see how excited he was about it. There was Wi-Fi and Amazon Prime Video, too. I think it’s family-owned, which helped me feel safe. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in Baton Rouge.

The room was hot most of the time because the AC barely helped unless you stood right beside it. The sheets had burn marks, the hand towel holder broke during our stay, and many TV channels were either black with faint static or glitching badly. Outside, the uneven pavement nearly made me trip on the steps, and there were used condoms and litter scattered around. The place looked like it was falling apart, and I didn’t get the sense that anyone was taking care of it. The person in charge got irritated that there were more than two people in our room, though one person wasn’t even planning to stay. When we asked for coffee, he wouldn’t give us any and told us to wait until 8 in the morning. It seemed like he either expected people to pay full price for the bare minimum, didn’t care about the guests, or maybe both. He acted stuck-up while treating guests like an inconvenience, even though their money pays for his food and housing. He needs to fix the hotel or calm down and humble himself before someone else does it for him. This was one of the worst places I’ve stayed.

The lobby felt like an oven and had missing ceiling tiles. It was gross, and the room was hot, smelly, falling apart, and disgusting. While I was there, random people walked past shouting. I only lasted 15 minutes before leaving, but they charged the full price and gave me no refund. There was no way I was staying.

The first time I drove by, I thought the place was abandoned. Inside, there was one clothes hanger, holes in the walls, and no soap or shampoo in the shower. The front desk guy asked me for a $50 cash deposit even though I’d booked with points through my banking app. Obviously, it looked like he wanted to pocket the cash.
