For what it costs, the hotel and rooms are great. It’s an older property, but it’s been renovated and was clean, and the breakfast selection was nice. The fitness center was decent, although it only had cardio machines and no weights. My car was safe in the lot. The one problem was how loud the room’s air conditioner was. I should have asked them to fix it.
The room cost around 220 for a double bed, but it felt like an overpriced dirty motel. We saw water damage on the restroom ceilings, smudges on the walls and artwork, and the place felt dank and outdated. There was dried fecal matter on the back of the bathroom doors, which makes me wonder how that could be missed if the room was cleaned properly. We switched rooms, and the front desk handled customer service well and gave us enough points toward a free room another time. But when we shook out the bed before leaving, I found something on the comforter’s end corners that looked like mildew, mold, or bed bug poop. Housekeeping was careless, and these problems come from management not doing its job. Sanitation issues aren’t safe, especially for families with small children.
The location worked for our family get-together, but I wouldn’t stay here again. I’ve visited several Hyatt Place hotels over the past eight years, and Baton Rouge was a long way below the others. The room looked grungy, with exposed wires under the TV and a filthy outlet beside the bed. The TV wouldn’t swivel, which made it hard to watch, and the console underneath it and the desk lamp were missing. There was no carpet, which isn’t standard for these rooms.
I came back from a day at the park with my children to find my things gone from the hotel room. A housekeeper said someone who didn’t stay in my room and wasn’t listed on it had told her to donate everything to a church. That wasn’t true. I’d been standing right there when she spoke to them, making sure she understood not to enter my room. Once I said the police were on their way, she suddenly knew where my things were, but my son’s clothes, all my new toiletries, perfume, candles, AirPods, Beats Solo headphones, and the food I’d just bought for my son were kept. This is ridiculous. I don’t recommend staying somewhere staff will steal from guests while they’re out, and I will be pressing charges.
We stayed the night we got married for a night out. The lobby smelled amazing, and the room was spotless, quiet, and spacious. Everything was up to date, and we had no problems at all. I’d recommend staying here, but breakfast wasn’t great, so go to Waffle House instead.
