Baymont by Wyndham Battle Creek/I-94

Work kept me at Baymont Hotel in downtown for several months, and it came to feel like a second home. The rooms stayed clean and comfortable, and the staff and manager were friendly, professional, and accommodating. I often needed early check-in, and they helped whenever they could, sometimes giving me one of their best rooms for the same rate. Everyone was respectful and cooperative during my long stay. The free breakfast was nice, and the pool and hot tub were a good way to unwind after work. I’d highly recommend it if you’re in the Battle Creek area.

Be careful to check which Baymont location you’re reading about. Baymont/I94 is awful, while Baymont Downtown has good reviews. My family and I spent five days here in July and had three rooms. The hotel was dated, dirty, and smelly. The pool area felt stagnant, there was no water circulating, and the hot tub was green. We wouldn’t swim there. The general manager was rude and seemed not to care about maintenance requests, always having an excuse. In one room, the tub filled while showering and wouldn’t drain. In another, the towel holder fell off. The third was the best, but paint chips kept dropping from the ceiling in the vanity area, the toilet backed up and sent out black material when we used the plunger, and sitting on the foot of the bed made it flip up. They don’t clean the rooms during your stay, despite the rules saying they will on the third day unless you request otherwise. Ours weren’t cleaned at all for five days. We had to bring dirty towels to the desk to get replacements, but whenever we asked, they had none and said to try the next day. One afternoon they shut off the water at 3:00 without warning to fix a leak in the downstairs hallway. We only found out when I called because we had no water to shower and get ready for dinner. Asked how long it would be off, I was told “not forever,” then that meant it would return sometime. This place is horrible.

The room was completely unlivable. The two queen beds had dirty sheets, with short black hairs and crumbs like sugar or cookies trapped between the blanket and mattress. The walls had dirty handprints and red marks, which were smeared across the broken AC/heater. Cold air came through the broken windows, and the unit didn’t work. There were streaky, slurry-like stains on the bathroom wall and holes in the door, as if something had been thrown at it. The hot tub water was brown and there was trash around the pool. The hotel needs a major makeover to justify those prices, and getting a refund so we could leave was difficult. I’m never going back.

The room was clean and nice, and the staff were great. The manager got us in early by switching our room around. The elevator was a bit scary at first because its door wouldn’t close properly. I hope they fix it. Otherwise, I’d definitely stay again.
