Hampton Inn & Suites Bay City, TX

UPDATE 1.20.2026: AT&T installed a new WIFI system here, and it's so much better. Well done! Before that, the WIFI hadn't worked for weeks, and I heard several rooms were out of service because of broken equipment. The rest is a standard hotel for work trips. You all can do better.

I picked this place for a Friday, Dec 26, overnight before a day trip to Matagorda Bay. The main reason was the pet policy. I paid the $50 fee and was glad to see other guests with dogs, too. There's even a dog waste station by the parking lot. Since taking my dog on his first beach trip was the whole point, that earns the hotel an extra star. There's also a hotel cat, Max, with his own bed, feeding station, and little setup beside the walkway to the pool. At first I thought he was a stray trying to get in after a cold night, but the whole area seems like his personal catio. The location is on a road with several hotels in the same price range. Walmart is across the road, Vallarta Mexican restaurant is next door, and Bay City's main street with more restaurants is about five minutes away. Matagorda Bay is around 35 minutes away. I had a clean, spacious 1-king suite. It felt modern and had a kitchenette, sitting area, desk, and lots of power outlets. The walk-in shower was new, with glass sliding panels. The bed, pillows, and linens were comfortable and clean. The towels, though, were extremely worn. One was so threadbare you could see through it. A few things fell short. The hotel WIFI didn't work, and I couldn't connect to HHonors, which was a real problem when I needed dinner ideas and beach directions. The new bathroom sink had its faucet tucked into a corner, so washing my hands and face splashed water everywhere. The shower pressure was low, possibly because I was on the fourth floor, and the temperature took several minutes to shift from lukewarm to scalding. At check-in around 6 PM, I waited several minutes at the counter. The receptionist was in the breakfast area, reading or on the phone, so a bell at the desk might help. Otherwise, service was pretty good, and the rest was what you'd expect from a Hampton Inn. As a Hilton Gold member, I didn't get a courtesy upgrade, but I didn't need early check-in or late checkout. They did ask if I wanted water or snacks, and those little things count. It was my first stay here, and I wanted to like it, but the basics weren't all there.

A big thank you to the manager, Miss Heidi. The people working here are amazing, and the rooms are clean and nice. Breakfast is good, too. This is the most welcoming hotel I've ever visited.

The hotel was very clean and well kept. I was there for a meeting, and the staff were helpful and quick to take care of what I needed.
