The room and service made it easy for all three of us to settle in. Megan let us stay in the Hamilton King suite with our large breed dog, and the spacious, spotless room was warm even in freezing New York weather. My fiancé and I both said “wow” when we opened the door. Soft traditional jazz, including Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and others, was playing, and even our particular dog relaxed right away. Megan and Carrie treated our pup like royalty and checked in often. Carrie was also warm and informative when I asked about early check-in and other perks. Before we arrived, Megan patiently helped me book, answered questions about things to do nearby, and made sure our dog could stay. Her genuine care set the tone. The lobby felt like a hug, with soft light, a lovely scent, historic Beacon character, and thoughtful touches from established and emerging designers. Coffee and tea, fireplaces, the solarium, and rooftop deck all helped us feel at home. You can tell the team cares about its guests and the space. I also booked a full-body restorative massage at the spa with Krysten and left feeling like a completely new person. 10/10! Thanks to The Dutchess Inn team for giving us just what we needed. I'm already planning another visit :)

The rooftop decks are a highlight, with breathtaking valley views, comfy seating, fireplaces, and plantings. We also enjoyed an amazing hot tub visit, and I treated myself to a facial at the spa. Our room was comfortable, cozy, and convenient for us and our dog, Vinny. The staff were warm and welcoming, and accommodated everything we needed from check-in through the stay. We hope to return to this special oasis.

If you're after the same polished feel as a rebranded Hilton or Marriott, this isn't it. The Dutchess Inn has the character and quiet of an old-time inn, like stepping into the 1920s. Even the slow elevator made me think of my first Manhattan apartment off Mulberry in 1995. It gave me time to drop the armor and quiet my monkey brain. I stayed in the Polo Room, where jazz and swing played continuously, with Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, Nancy Wilson, Nat King Cole, and others filling the space like old friends. Ornate mirrors, refurbished furniture, and thoughtful décor brought back the quiet “me time” I've missed in our rushed modern world. I felt inspired to write again and enjoy simple things I'd let go of after leaving NYC years ago. The spa was a perfect start to the stay. Jeff, a skilled therapist, worked out the deep knots between my shoulder blades and gave me practical tips to use after checkout. It helped me leave travel chaos behind and settle into the inn's slower pace. The location worked out beautifully, too. Bank Square Coffeehouse and Beacon Bakery sit at either end of the Dutchess, so I didn't have to go far for food. The neighborhood's storefront art and an excellent Palestinian restaurant just a few blocks away made me feel I'd landed in the right part of town, where solidarity is strong and community still matters. This place is a refuge for anyone wanting authenticity, soul, and a slower rhythm. I left feeling restored. To me, real luxury is how a place makes you feel, not its thread count.

The location was great, the staff were friendly, and the hotel was clean and pleasant. But for $300 a night, the overall stay felt overpriced. The shower kept getting too hot when I wanted it mildly warm, and having the sink outside the bathroom felt awkward. The central heater was loud, the internet kept dropping, and the comfortable bed screeched whenever I moved.

They even treat your pet like royalty, so I'd give them 20 out of 10 stars for that. The people are incredibly nice, the place is spotless, and the bed is perfect. The “salon” is warm and peaceful. If the scale went to 11, I'd still want more. The Dutchess is perfect.
