The room had a fridge, the AC worked, and they let us bring our little dog for an extra fee. Still, I wish we’d paid a bit more for the newer hotel in town. A couple of days later we stayed at a Best Western that cost less and was much nicer, so this place just wasn’t worth what we paid. We stopped here while driving through this summer. The room was under the stairs and felt dark and depressing. Its layout was awkward, with the second bed tucked into a separate space that barely fit it. The carpet was old and musty, the shower tile was nearly falling off, the window wouldn’t stay open, and a two-by-four was holding up the sink. I knew not to expect anything fancy, but I did expect a fresh room. They say all the rooms were updated after a fire, but ours didn’t feel up to date, even for a two-star hotel.

We were traveling with pets and got a room that absolutely reeked of flea powder. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been updated since the 1950s. We only stopped because it was late, and the pass we’d just crossed had a near whiteout from a snowstorm. I didn’t want to risk driving into another one that night.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful, and we had a great time nearby at Cedar Breaks. The room itself was in rough shape, though, and the $250 price felt wildly out of line with its condition. To be fair, we were there during fall leaf turn. There was hair in the bathroom and a pile of it between the bed and the wall. The bed looked as if someone had slept in it and it had just been remade, with hair left on the sheets. When we asked for fresh ones and started removing the old bedding, we found plenty more hair built up on the mattress topper. The new sheets even had a live seed bug in them, for what it’s worth. It seemed they might change the sheets regularly but rarely clean deeper. The carpet looked dirty too, and we wondered if it ever got a deep cleaning. The room had other upkeep problems: you had to push the bathroom door sideways at the top to get it into the frame. Outside, the trash can in the pet relief area was overflowing with garbage and poop bags.

Breakfast was amazing, and the room was clean and comfortable. We had such a cozy, quiet stay. The staff were really friendly and helpful, too. Zoie made check-in easy and smooth. I’d recommend staying here!

At $115 a night, this felt overpriced. The hotel is worn out and needs at least a fresh coat of paint, if not a full remodel.
