Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Beckley

The staff in Beckley are very nice, and the room was clean, with comfy beds and extra pillows. This Holiday Inn is convenient for the highway and airport, and it was fine, though Holiday Inns don't feel like they used to. We stay for the restaurant, but these days it's open only 5 to 10 pm and for a couple of breakfast hours, with a limited dinner menu. The pod coffee maker came with little styrofoam cups, yuck. TV choices weren't great, and the charging outlets were awkward: one by the bed and two at the desk, all needing a long cord. The inner shower curtain was far too long. I may start looking at higher-end hotels.

The place itself was nice, which makes the extra $117 charge especially frustrating. I booked online and prepaid for one night in a King suite, but the added amount wasn't disclosed when I reserved. I didn't use room service or any other service, and still don't know what the charge was for. I only found out when the receipt arrived by email. I won't stay here again over these hidden fees. Too bad, because it's a nice place.

There was blood on the bedding, which was the worst part of a very disappointing stay. The room also had a stained, old pull-out couch, hair in the tub, filthy bathroom corners, and crumbs or other bits on the carpet. We'd booked because I thought Holiday Inn meant free breakfast and an indoor pool. A week before arrival, the website showed a pool, but we were told breakfast wasn't free, and then saw the pool was empty and under construction. We waited ages for the only working elevator before finding the room in that state. The front desk woman was kind and apologetic, and Shannon came up right away to replace all the bedding. I appreciated that, but the rooms need a deep clean.

We were there for a 10-day extended work stay. The restaurant was nice, and breakfast, at $12, was quite good, though there was no continental option. My coworkers also thought their dinners were reasonably priced. Housekeeping missed details, though: plenty of dust, dirty mirrors with leftover dental floss spray, and sticky surfaces.
