Towneplace Suites by Marriott Houston Westchase

The bed and linens were clean enough to sleep on, but the property was poorly maintained. Neither of the two treadmills nor the elliptical worked, and some of the free weights were missing from the rack. The TV in the breakfast area had broken colors, and the bathtub was stained. It seems the owners aren't concerned with upkeep or renovation and are letting the place deteriorate.

The staff were welcoming, and the hotel was clean and handy for getting to the city center, with lots of good restaurants and other places nearby. I was disappointed that the room didn't already have a toothbrush and toothpaste; I had to ask for these basic items. It was an okay stay.

The staff were very friendly, which was a plus, but there's a lot that could be improved. Breakfast was the usual waffles, cereal, pastries, and fruit, and I liked the oatmeal bar. The eggs were powdered, though the nearby sign called them cage-free, which seemed misleading. In the room, the bed was comfortable, but the pillows were flat and unsupportive, and the sofa bed might be okay for a child but wasn't comfortable for us. The bathroom fan didn't work, so it got steamy, and the only mirrors were in there. The room stayed stuffy regardless of the thermostat setting. The kitchenette was a nice touch, but the garbage disposal didn't work. The shower had two settings, both unpleasant, one weak and one splashy, so I just wanted to get out. Attention to cleaning and basic upkeep, along with better pillows and a shower head, could make the stay much better. I know this isn't a five-star place, and it wasn't the worst I've stayed in, but among similar hotels it's far from the best. I was uncomfortable enough that I'd be very hesitant to return, especially since it's a Marriott brand.

The staff were friendly, kept hot water and coffee available all day, and the beds were comfortable with fluffy towels. Parking was free, the location was convenient, about 25 minutes from Hobby airport, with plenty of places to eat nearby. But I couldn't wait to get home. The rooms smelled musty, the sofa had no cushioning, curtains had holes, rugs were dirty, and the bathroom floor smelled like urine. The old stained tub, unclean shower curtain, and shower head that sprayed everywhere made things worse. The kitchen was so old I was afraid to turn on the stove. I could hear people snoring downstairs and traffic through the night, except from 2 AM to 4 AM. The gym wasn't properly equipped, and the treadmill in the middle was unsafe and needed replacing, along with the stair machine. The pool needed cleaning or should be closed. My feet got itchy. There were so many problems. If you do stay, I'd suggest buying something like Arm & Hammer Moisture Absorber & Odor Eliminator, especially if you have asthma.
