Quality Inn Beckley

The bed was easily the best part: soft sheets, fluffy pillows, and a plush feel. The linens and towels were clean, with no loose hairs, and I didn’t see any evidence of bugs. But the room itself had lots of stains on the walls, carpet, and furniture under a blacklight. The furniture was old, and the hallway smelled strongly of marijuana. The shower only got warm, had almost no pressure, and barely covered my small frame. We arrived around 10 p.m. expecting an ordinary budget hotel. The desk staff were very friendly, check-in was quick, and the woman at the front desk gave us useful directions to park by the second entrance near our room. The room initially seemed fairly clean. The walls and windows were so thin that we heard doors slam and people talking, though most of the night was peaceful until an unwanted 5 a.m. wake-up call. With checkout at noon, I don’t understand why they called then. In the morning, someone was parked just outside our window in a disabled spot, apparently making drug deals. The shower had been cold by then too. This isn’t a place I’d bring kids or recommend staying at. It gets two stars from me only because there were no bugs.

The staff were welcoming, and the manager was walking the halls and greeted me on both mornings. My room and bathroom were clean, and there were no bugs. I’d happily come back. The beds are quite firm, which suits me, though others might not like that.

At $57 a night, this was one of the least expensive places nearby, and it was clean and quiet. It worked well for our few days in town, and I’ll stay here again.

The staff were very nice, but the rooms need updating and weren’t especially clean. Some carpet marks looked like pet urine stains. There were only two towels, which isn’t much for a woman needing one for her hair and another for her body. Dogs were barking in the breakfast hall.
