The Lakeview Hotel, Shanty Creek Resort

If you’re here for work, be aware there’s nowhere comfortable to work. The basic rooms have no desk or table, and the main hotel has no business center. Your options are Starbucks, which closes at 2 pm, or a couple of very uncomfortable high-top tables in the restaurant. I know this is a ski resort, but I had to come for business, and Bellaire doesn’t have many other hotels besides Shanty Creek. The tubing slope plays loud music all day, and it carries clearly into at least the rooms in the 200 hallways. I understand most guests are here to ski or tube and have fun, but the website should disclose the noise, or offer a quiet room that isn’t one of the extremely expensive suites. The rooms are fine, nothing special, and the building is showing its age. The beds have a sheet, felt blanket, and thin polyester protector that’s like a duvet cover, but no actual duvet. It’s northern Michigan in winter, so if you get cold, bring your own blankets. The staff have all been nice, especially at the restaurant, and the food at Lakeview is good, though a little pricey. I’m sure families with kids have a better time here. If you have to stay for business, one of the Shanty Creek motel rooms is a better bet. They’re kind of gross, but more private and have somewhere to work.
