Mont Rest Inn

The building, town, and scenery are beautiful, which makes the way our stay went especially disappointing. We had one good night and a delicious breakfast, then spent the murder mystery dinner event confined to our bedroom and the conservatory, basically a sunroom. We weren’t attending the event. The website says guests can use the shared spaces, especially the kitchen, at any time, but apparently events are an exception. Other guests should expect hours of partying downstairs, over four hours in our case. I had to ask a staff member what to expect. Nobody introduced themselves, and the red-haired staff member was dressed so casually that we couldn’t tell who was a guest and who worked there. They said the event would use nearly every shared space on the first floor. When it finally ended at 10PM, I raised our concerns. The person I assume was the manager said we should have checked the website calendar and spoken up about the noise, as if it were our job to monitor it and ask people to quiet down. The rooms could use attention too: the toilet ran, and some windows had no curtains. Better hospitality training and planning would help. They should either run a proper bed and breakfast or host events, because trying to do both made for a poor experience.

Titanic night was such fun, especially getting to dress up. Naomi was the best hostess, the food was great, and the rooms were beautiful, full of gorgeous antiques. I felt like royalty!

The murder mystery was a fantastic time and well worth attending. The location is beautiful, overlooking the Mississippi River.

The food is why I’m giving this place five stars. We did the Murder Mystery, and the mystery itself was a bit muddled, but the Cornish Hen was delicious. Breakfast brought quiche, potatoes, and beignets. Yum. A little murder was worth it.
