The first room they gave us had urine on the bathroom and a stained towel. I told the front desk lady, and she moved us. In the second room there were no hangers or chair, so I asked her for those. She took me to a third room and asked if it was okay. The bathroom looked clean, and there was a gliding chair, so I agreed and moved in with my family, including our two children. After we settled, we noticed the smoke detector was missing and wires were hanging from the ceiling. I reported it. Another woman came over and said she could put one up in two minutes, then asked if that was fine or if I wanted to check out. I asked for five minutes to think. I saw her whisper with the first desk lady about my needing time. Once my family had come down to the lobby, I told the second woman that this wasn't acceptable. None of the three rooms had been properly ready: one was dirty, the second lacked hangers and a chair, and the third had no smoke detector. She said they were remodeling and asked me to understand. When I explained that dismissing the missing detector as something easy to fix made me think they weren't taking safety seriously, a man came down the stairs asking loudly what the complaint was. He repeated that it was no big deal and could be fixed in two minutes. I tried to explain my concern about safety code, but he yelled at us to check out and leave, thanked us for our business, and said “BS.” My husband and I left right away. Their rudeness to us, especially in front of the children, was unbelievable.
