The Inn at Lewes

The location and clean bed linens, towels and washcloths were the only good parts. We checked for bed bugs and didn’t find any. Everything else was filthy or missing. The floor, walls and counters had dirt, hair and dust; the couch and decorative pillows were stained, and springs stuck out of the pullout mattress. There were no spare sheets, pillows or blankets, even though they knew there’d be four of us. I booked this older inn for the availability and price over Memorial Day weekend, and the age itself wasn’t a problem. The cleanliness and unreachable front desk were. I was told to call if we needed anything because someone would have the phone, but after six calls I still got no callback. I cleaned all the surfaces we’d touch, then bought an air mattress, bedding, extra pillows and washcloths since the room was only set up for two. Do not stay here.

We arrived to check in and were told to call someone. They said they’d call back, then told us there were no clean rooms. At $500 a night, you’d expect to hear that before driving five hours with two children. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give.

The staff were friendly and check-in was easy. We stayed one night so we could get to the beach early, and the bed and sheets were fine. The room itself, though, was extremely run down. Stained couch, chipped paint on the furniture, and a flat-screen in the bedroom like the one Michael has in “The Office,” which gave us a laugh. The place had a strong old smell, and the warm water lasted only about five minutes. I’d worried about the room after reading earlier reviews and brought an air mattress and sheets, but didn’t need them. The floor was filthy, though. I let my one-year-old crawl for a minute and his hands and feet turned black.

It was peaceful and quiet, even with restaurants and major roads nearby, and the place felt safe, cozy and cared for. The owners seem proud of it. The room was spotless, spacious and well maintained, with a comfortable bed, hot shower, strong Wi-Fi, fridge and microwave. From check-in to checkout, the staff were welcoming and helpful. I had a fantastic stay and would recommend it for comfort, cleanliness and value. It’s an affordable option that still delivers good quality and service. I’ll be back.
