Shilo Inn Suites Hotel - Bend

The location was good, and the place seems like it could be really nice, but my room wasn’t clean. I found socks under the bed and little black hairs in it. The hide-a-bed mattress was missing, so the couch couldn’t be used as a bed. While I was drying my hair, the lights started flickering. I told the clerk, but he didn’t seem very interested in fixing things and only said he’d notify maintenance and housekeeping. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The location worked for us, and the river views and functioning AC were good. From outside, the place has a somewhat dated lodge look, but I don’t mind vintage charm when things are clean. They weren’t. There were stained carpets, dust, dirt, and bugs and cobwebs around. The shower stayed lukewarm, and a tap regulator meant I couldn’t make it hotter. Several times overnight I woke up feeling something crawling or itching on me. When I turned on the light, I found ants in the bed. There wasn’t any food in the room, and I hadn’t noticed ants at check-in, so I don’t know where they came from. The doors also had no safety lock bar or chain, and there was no continental breakfast.

We booked this room for the jacuzzi tub after days of travel for our wedding. Both times I tried filling it, old bugs came out of the jets, so I gave up and used the shower instead. I let the water run for 25 minutes, but it never even got warm. A room with a jacuzzi and no hot water? I won’t be back.

The room was comfortable and I slept well, so I’d come back for the value and convenience. It’s right by the river, which is a plus, though walking around involves some ups and downs. The main road and a busy shopping area are just across from it. There are two indoor hot tubs that get quite hot when you turn the 15 minute knob near the windows, and the pool stays cool, which would be nice on a hot day. You can hear people upstairs having sex pretty clearly, so I’d suggest a room upstairs or by the river.
