Townplace Suites Bend Near Mt Bachelor

We had a really nice time watching the rafters, tubers, and river surfers at McKay Park, which is close by. Downtown Bend is only about a six-minute drive away, too. The hotel was quiet, and the recently updated room felt fresh, clean, and modern. I was pleasantly surprised by this sweet little place. Service was phenomenal on the phone, at check-in, and throughout our stay.

We spent three months here on an extended work trip with our two pups. The staff are truly something special, and we'll definitely be back. It's close to the river and Bachelor, dog friendly, clean and comfortable, and breakfast is included. The location is great, the price was reasonable, and the staff were epic.

The location was good, but that was about the only upside of my stay at TownePlace Suites in Bend. There were two weather-related power outages, one of them lasting over four hours, and the hotel wasn't ready for them. There were no emergency lights or lighting in the halls and stairways. They put glow sticks on a couple of door handles, which wasn't nearly enough to get around an unfamiliar building safely. The front desk said fast-moving thunderstorms and outages like these are common in the area. If so, the hotel should have working safety lights or backup lighting. Our room also felt poorly maintained and dated. The carpet was worn, which surprised me for a pet-friendly hotel, the appliances were very outdated, and the dishwasher wouldn't close. The deadbolt often stuck, so closing the door was a struggle each time. Staff were often eating and hanging out in the lobby and breakfast area. It came across as unprofessional and made the shared space less welcoming. Previous reviews mentioned renovations months earlier, but I saw no updates in our room or hallway. Whatever the star rating, safety and professionalism matter. The property felt unprepared, unsafe, and poorly maintained.

The hotel is right by the river, within walking distance of trails, and the area is beautiful. The pool and spa are nice, and there's a weight room too. The place is clean, and the front desk staff are all awesome, friendly, and attentive. The people preparing breakfast were great as well. There was a huge spread, including fresh fruit, pastries, and a make-your-own waffle station. Breakfast was very good. They're renovating some rooms, but I didn't hear any construction, which was good. I'd avoid the snack bar, though. It's way overpriced when Safeway is only about five minutes away.
