The Autumn Inn

The place was super affordable and close to everything, and we felt very safe. My friend’s car battery died as we were getting ready to leave the next morning, and the same staff member who had helped us with our last-minute one-night stay went above and beyond. He brought out jumper cables, and a couple of people with cars helped us get it started. I’m not sure whether they were staff or part of the community. He also gave us water bottles when he saw how stressed we were and checked that we were okay and safe to go. He was incredibly kind and hospitable. He wore glasses and I think he was South Asian, but unfortunately I don’t know his name. My friend and I stayed there about two months ago. That kind of honest, genuine hospitality is insanely rare.

The staff were friendly and it was a short distance from downtown. The room was reasonably clean, but the bed was uncomfortable, there was a funky smell, and it was missing a bed. The property is run down and seems geared toward long-term guests. It wasn't horrible, though I’ll probably look for a different hotel next time I’m in Bennington.

The manager really came through when I had car trouble. They even let us keep the room longer after checkout while we waited for the problem to be sorted out, and I’m super appreciative. It’s a clean, cozy inn, just what you’d expect from a motel. I’d recommend staying here for that kind of help alone.

The rooms were nice, big, and spacious, but I didn’t like the service. I was there from Thursday until Sunday or Monday. When I asked to bring my service dog, the manager was very rude and first said no, then changed his mind and said yes, but that the room I had wasn’t suitable for an animal. I also asked to stay one extra night and he pretty much said no because he had to accommodate the leaf peepers.
