West Road Motel

Bev and her husband jimmy have put a lot of effort into changing this place, and you can feel the difference in the atmosphere. They work hard to keep suspicious activity and drugs out, which makes you feel safe. They've installed new floors and showers. There's still a way to go, but it's come a long way from what it used to be. I don't usually write reviews, but when people work hard to make a difference, it shows and deserves recognition.

We'd stayed at this motel six years ago and again five years ago. It was old even then, but clean and well kept, so we chose it again when visiting family this past weekend. Big mistake. The location is actually convenient for seeing our family, which makes the condition especially disappointing. Our room door had no storm door, and its frame was broken, as if someone had broken in and it was never repaired. The small window beside the door had no screen. Inside, there was a damp, musty smell, battered old lampshades, and dresser drawers with no handles. The shower was disgusting, and the bathroom window and screen wouldn't open. We should've read the reviews saying it seems to be used as temporary housing for people who are down and out. That's fine, but if the owner is still renting rooms to the public, they need to clean and repair them. We won't stay again.

The manager cares a lot about the people and how the Motel is perceived. The facility is old and has plenty of issues, but the setting is ideal if you like farmland. Rooms 4-8 have a great view, and rooms in the 20s face the pond to the west. Some of us don't care much about the room's looks, its windows, or old lampshades.

I love how peaceful and rural this place is. It's not fancy, more country comfort with a bit of a shabby chic feel, and its charm comes from quiet and simplicity. The bucolic views are wonderful. The lodging site is 300 years old, and Revolutionary troops from the 1770s stayed on the property. Don't come expecting four-star hotel amenities or perfection. People who need completely level sidewalks because of medical limitations should spend more and stay somewhere else. High-end New Yorkers will hate it. The owner is allergic to cats, so cats aren't allowed.
